What is IDPwD International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPwD)?
What it is?
The United Nations’ (UN) International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPwD) is annually observed on 3rd December.
Observance of the day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilise support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities.
It also seeks to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life within our communities across the world.
The #MakeAChange celebrations will be held on Monday 3rd December, the UN day – International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPwD).
The celebration aims to recognise the outstanding achievements of organisations, groups and individuals that have worked to improve accessibility and inclusion for disabled islanders and carers in Guernsey. In 2018 specific focus will be on the changes made as part of Purple Tuesday and the Accessible Town project.
You can view the 2017 nominees at https://matter.gg/make-a-change-2018/
All nominees will be recognised in the Inner Market Hall on a display board, Monday 3rd December and the awards within the main event at about 6pm

#MakeAChange – How do we celebrate IDPwD locally?
This year we plan to use the Accessible Town project to celebrate the achievements of organisations and individuals that have continued to drive that change. These changes will be showcased through short videos, nomination posters and various media channels before a public presentation in the evening Monday 3rd December (after 6pm).
You can view our #MakeAChange Change Cards (Hints and Tips factsheets and videos) on our website here
You can upload your own changes you have made here
we would actively encourage you to fundraise on the day and have provided a fundraising pack to help with ideas

How can you support us?
We are currently seeking a sponsor for the IDPwD project and awards. These are well published with multiple sponsorship opportunities and add to a progressive project to raise awareness and make a real change locally.
