What is IDPwD International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPwD)?

is a United Nations sanctioned day (3rd December) that is celebrated internationally. It aims to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability and celebrate their achievements and contributions.

To find out more about IDPwD view the UN webpage here

#MakeAChange – How do we celebrate IDPwD locally?

Last year Guernsey celebrated this day more formally with our ‘Think Differently about Disability’ campaign in the run up to IDPwD and on the day with our #MakeAChange awards.

This year we plan to use the Accessible Town project to celebrate the achievements of organisations and individuals that have continued to drive that change. These changes will be showcased through short videos, nomination posters and various media channels before a public presentation lunchtime Monday 3rd December.

You can view our #MakeAChange Change Cards (Hints and Tips factsheets and videos) on our website here

You can upload your own changes you have made here

we would actively encourage you to fundraise on the day and have provided a fundraising pack to help with ideas

It would be great to hear more about your fundraising – please load the details into the fundraising events page

How can you support us?

We are currently seeking a sponsor for the IDPwD project and awards. These are well published with multiple sponsorship opportunities and add to a progressive project to raise awareness and make a real change locally.

How can we get involved?

If you are a local business who wants to #MakeAChange please check out the Purple Tuesday page and the We All Matter Eh? website for our Change Cards

Australia has a good site with useful resources here
